The Right Help Made Home Feel Manageable Again
Robert had always taken pride in caring for himself. Even after his knees became less steady, he still wanted to choose his own clothes, make his morning coffee, and spend the afternoon in his favorite chair by the window.
His daughter, Angela, began stopping by before work to help him get dressed and prepare breakfast. She returned in the evening to handle laundry and make sure he had something to eat. Before long, she was trying to balance her father’s needs with her job, children, and responsibilities at home.
“I wanted Dad to stay independent, but I was afraid something would happen when I could not be there,” Angela said.
The family began exploring senior home care through Michigan Medicaid. After learning about the Home Help program and the assessment process, they understood that Robert might qualify for assistance with specific daily activities.
With dependable help in place, Robert could continue following familiar routines at home. Angela was still closely involved, but she no longer felt that every responsibility rested on her shoulders.
For many families, senior home care is not about taking over. It is about providing the right level of assistance so an older adult can continue living at home with greater comfort, dignity, and confidence.
What Is Michigan Medicaid Senior Home Care?
Michigan’s Home Help program provides personal care services for eligible Medicaid members who need physical assistance with activities of daily living. The program is administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, commonly called MDHHS.
Home Help is designed to support people who need assistance while living in their own homes. An MDHHS adult services worker completes an in-home assessment to determine whether the member qualifies and which tasks may be authorized.
Trinity Home Assistance works with members, families, and caregivers after services have been approved. We help make the care process feel more personal and understandable while following the member’s authorized plan.
Senior home care may be appropriate for someone who:
- Has difficulty bathing, dressing, grooming, or using the bathroom
- Needs hands-on help walking or transferring safely
- Cannot prepare meals or complete essential household tasks alone
- Is living with a disability or ongoing health condition
- Wants to remain at home instead of moving to a facility
- Has a family caregiver who needs additional support
- Has been approved for Michigan Medicaid Home Help services
For Michigan Home Help clients, MDHHS determines eligibility and authorization. For MI Coordinated Health members, the applicable HIDE D-SNP determines covered services and authorization. Private-pay services are arranged directly with Trinity Home Assistance based on the client’s needs and agency availability.
Medicaid, HIDE D-SNP, and Private-Pay Senior Care Options
There is more than one way to arrange senior home care through Trinity Home Assistance.
Eligible Michigan Medicaid members may receive approved care through the Home Help program. Seniors who have both Medicare and full Medicaid may instead qualify for MI Coordinated Health, Michigan’s HIDE D-SNP program. MICH combines Medicare with most Medicaid benefits and may include authorized long-term services and supports delivered at home. (MDHHS)
For members enrolled in MI Coordinated Health, personal care is arranged through the HIDE D-SNP rather than through Michigan Home Help at the same time. (Michigan DHHS)
Trinity Home Assistance is also open to private-pay senior care. Private pay may be an option when a senior does not qualify for Medicaid, wants care while waiting for benefits, or would like additional services beyond what a health plan authorizes.

Benefits of Senior Home Care
Greater Independence at Home
Needing help with certain activities does not mean a senior has lost the ability to make choices. Home care allows members to continue living in familiar surroundings while receiving assistance with the tasks they cannot safely complete alone.
Care can be built around the member’s established routine. This may include preferred bathing times, favorite meals, clothing choices, and the way household tasks are usually completed.
Hands-On Help With Daily Activities
Michigan Home Help may cover physical assistance with activities of daily living, also known as ADLs. These activities include bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, mobility, toileting, and transferring from one position or place to another.
A caregiver may provide partial or complete assistance based on the member’s assessed needs and approved service plan.
Support for Family Caregivers
Family members often begin helping gradually. They may bring groceries, prepare meals, or stop by to assist with personal care. As needs increase, caregiving can become difficult to manage without additional support.
Senior home care can provide a more consistent plan. In some situations, an eligible relative, friend, or neighbor may also be able to serve as the member’s caregiver after completing applicable enrollment requirements.
Familiar Routines and Surroundings
Home is filled with personal history. Familiar rooms, belongings, neighbors, and routines can provide comfort, especially during periods of illness or change.
Receiving care at home allows the member to remain connected to the environment they know while getting approved help with everyday needs.
More Confidence for the Whole Family
Families often worry about whether an older relative is eating properly, bathing safely, or keeping up with basic household needs. Dependable care provides another source of support and communication.
While no home care arrangement can remove every concern, a clear care plan can help families feel more confident that essential tasks are being addressed.
Senior Home Care Services We Provide
Trinity Home Assistance provides nonmedical support according to each member’s approved Michigan Home Help authorization. The amount, frequency, and type of assistance vary by member.
A caregiver can provide respectful, hands-on help with approved personal care activities, which may include:
- Bathing or showering
- Dressing and undressing
- Grooming and personal hygiene
- Eating
- Toileting
- Walking and mobility
- Transferring between a bed, chair, or other surface
Personal care is provided in a way that protects privacy and encourages the member to participate at the level they are able.
A caregiver may prepare simple meals based on the member’s preferences, dietary instructions, and available food. Assistance can also include washing dishes and cleaning the immediate food preparation area when these tasks are authorized.
Home Help may cover certain instrumental activities of daily living when the member also meets the program’s qualifying requirements.
Authorized homemaker support may include washing clothing and bedding, changing linens, and completing light household tasks that are necessary for the member’s daily care.
Home Help is not a general housekeeping or deep-cleaning service. Caregivers follow the specific tasks approved in the member’s service plan.
Essential Shopping
When authorized, a caregiver may assist with shopping for food and other essential items. The purpose is to help the member obtain necessities connected to daily health and personal care.
Transportation and general errands should not be presented as automatically covered services. All support must remain within the member’s authorization.
A senior living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia may need patient, consistent assistance with approved physical care tasks.
Caregivers can follow familiar routines, communicate calmly, and provide respectful support during bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, and mobility. However, supervision, prompting, and companionship are not covered as stand-alone Michigan Home Help tasks.
Some members already have a relative, friend, or neighbor who helps them at home. That person may be able to become an approved caregiver when program and enrollment requirements are met.
Trinity Home Assistance can explain the agency’s caregiver process and help families understand the responsibilities involved.
The Medicaid Home Help system can feel unfamiliar. Families may have questions about assessments, service authorizations, caregiver enrollment, or what happens after a case manager provides a list of agencies.
Our team helps members understand how Trinity Home Assistance fits into their care plan. We do not approve applications or determine authorized hours, but we can answer questions about beginning services with our agency.
Why Choose Trinity Home Assistance?
A Medicaid-Focused Approach
Trinity Home Assistance understands that Medicaid members and their families need clear information. We use Michigan Home Help terminology and explain the difference between covered personal care, approved homemaker tasks, and services that may not be included.
Our goal is to help families make informed decisions without promising benefits or services that have not been authorized.
Care That Respects the Individual
Every person has preferences about how assistance should be provided. We take time to understand the member’s routine, communication style, comfort level, and priorities.
Care should feel supportive, not controlling. Members remain active participants in decisions about their daily lives.
Support for Members and Caregivers
A successful care arrangement depends on communication among the member, family, caregiver, agency, and MDHHS worker.
We help caregivers understand the tasks they are expected to complete and the importance of providing only authorized services.

How to Get Started With Senior Home Care
1. Contact Trinity Home Assistance
2. Complete the Michigan Home Help Process
A person seeking Medicaid-funded Home Help must meet applicable Medicaid and functional eligibility requirements. An MDHHS adult services worker conducts an in-home assessment to determine whether the person qualifies and what assistance may be authorized.
If you have not started this process, contact the Adult Services unit at your local MDHHS office.
3. Review Your Caregiver Options
Approved members may discuss available caregiver options, including working with an agency or exploring whether a trusted person can complete the required caregiver steps.
Your caregiver must meet applicable screening, enrollment, and program requirements before providing paid services.
4. Begin Authorized Services
Once the member’s approval, service authorization, and caregiver requirements are complete, care can begin according to the authorized tasks and schedule.
